Father Christmas…🎅

The Story of Saint Nicholas

saint-nicholas6.jpg

We him by many names… Santa Claus, Father Christmas and many others. However, where and when did this tale start? Our story today tells of Saint Nicholas, where the story of christmas starts. Nicholas was born during the third century A.D. in the village of Patara- which is now known as Demre, Turkey. At the time it was a Greek area… His parents, whom were wealthy, had raised him as a devout Christian but would later die in an epidemic. Still very young at the time of their death, Nicholas – beying the word of Jesus Christ “Sell what you own and give the money to the poor.”, used his entire inheritance to help the needy, the sick and the all those around him suffering. He had dedicated his life to this, and serving God, he was eventually named Bishop of Myra, while still just a young man. He had became known across the land for his generosity to those in need, his love for children, and his concern for the sailors and their ships. However, our tale of Saint Nicholas does not end here.

Under Roman Emperor Diocletian, whom had killed Christians ruthlessly, punished Bishop Nicholas, making him suffer for his faith, and eas exiled and imprisoned. Prisons were full of bishops, priests, and deacons – leaving no room for the actual criminals, murderers, thieves, etc. After his release, Nicholas attended the Council of Nicaea in A.D. 325; he died December 6, A.D. 343. To celebrate the anniversary of Saint Nicholas’ death, and his extraordinary deeds there are feasts held on this day still now. He had in Myra and was buried there in his cathedral church, which is said to hold a relic, called the Manna. It is said to have formed in his grave, and many believe it has healing properties. This liquid substance has fostered a growth of devotion to Nicholas.

Though throughout centuries, many of stories have been told of Saint Nicholas, each varies in their tellers beliefs etc. Saint Nicholas was a life to celebrate. From his extraordinary deeds to his care of all peoples… He will remain in our hearts and souls forever! Happy Holidays to all!!

The Disasters By M.K. England

The Breakfast Club meets Guardians of the Galaxy in this YA sci-fi adventure by debut author M. K. England.

Hotshot pilot Nax Hall has a history of making poor life choices. So it’s not exactly a surprise when he’s kicked out of the elite Ellis Station Academy in less than twenty-four hours. But Nax’s one-way trip back to Earth is cut short when a terrorist group attacks the Academy.

Nax and three other washouts escape—barely—but they’re also the sole witnesses to the biggest crime in the history of space colonization. And the perfect scapegoats.

On the run, Nax and his fellow failures plan to pull off a dangerous heist to spread the truth. Because they may not be “Academy material,” and they may not even get along, but they’re the only ones left to step up and fight.

Full of high-stakes action, subversive humor, and underdogs becoming heroes, this YA sci-fi adventure is perfect for fans of Illuminae, Heart of Iron, or the cult classic TV show Firefly and is also a page-turning thrill ride that anyone—not just space nerds—can enjoy.

Releasing – December 18th, 2018!! Add it to your wish list today!! A perfect gift for any book nerd!!
